What is a thermal solar system?

These systems use Solar Light to produce heat. They are more commonly used to produce the hot sanitary waters. They could be used in combined systems to support heating and to heat pools.

What is a termossifonic system?

In this system, the water circulation is done by termossifonic effect.

This phenomenon is possible due to the difference of density between the hot water that is heated by the solar radiation and the cold water that comes in the reservoir. The termossifonic systems do not need a circulation pump or a controller. These are cheap systems, but not so efficient.

They are easily distinguished from the others because the boiler is placed next to the solar collector (in the roof).

In cloudy days or in winter do the thermal collectors work?

Yes, in average the available energy at that time of year is less and only supplies approximately 50% of needs. When there is no sufficient solar radiation the support system starts (it can be a boiler, a heater, or a electrical resistance inside the collector, etc.).

Do I still need gas or electricity after having a thermal solar system?

Yes, but only as a support to the solar system in consecutive days without Sun, spending about 20% annually.

What is a photovoltaic system?

Photovoltaic systems transform solar energy in electric power, this process of transforming light into electricity is called photovoltaic effect.

These systems can be used in grid or to isolated systems.
